Public consultation on the minimum requirements for energy efficiency in new buildings and buildings to be renovated

The Ministry for Public Works and Planning together with the Building and Construction Authority are publishing an updated draft of “Document F” for public consultation. “Document F” sets out the minimum requirements for buildings that are being renovated and new buildings to work in the most efficient way in the use of energy.

Malta is committed to meeting the European targets on carbon emissions according to the Paris agreement and is doing so through the development of a strategy for reducing the use of carbon and Malta’s plans on Energy and Climate.

The new document that is being issued for public consultation replaces the existing one and should serve as a guide for all those connected to the sector including professionals, contractors and operators in the construction field to recognize what their obligations are on the required energy efficiency.

The proposals in this document address the targets requested according to the European Green Deal and also aim to show the path that should lead to buildings with zero or almost zero emissions. This must be done by reducing the use of energy in existing buildings and installing solar panels on all new buildings and certain buildings that are being renovated.

The new Document F will incorporate a new set of minimum energy efficiency requirements that will come into force from next year.
