The Building and Construction Authority recognized the achievements of more than 150 students who completed a course in the Energy Performance Rating of Dwellings in Malta (EPRDM). The course has led these students to become assessors and therefore consult the public on energy performance in residential buildings.
During a ceremony, the students were presented with certificates that rewarded them for the work done during the course to become certified assessors. This number of assessors is on top of more than 500 assessors, resulting in a 30% on the number of assessors who are already operating.
The Minister for Public Works and Planning, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi was pleased that there was a large number of people who completed this course to become assessors and can now assist in the efficiency of energy in building.
The Minister explained how this year together with the Building and Construction Authority an updated draft of “Document F” was published for public consultation. As the efficiency in the use of energy in buildings is a subject that is increasing in its importance, this is showing once again the commitment of this Government to improve the quality of the building stock in Malta and continue with emission reduction initiatives.
In his speech, the CEO of the Building and Construction Authority Jesmond Muscat said that in today’s world, where the effects of climate change are becoming more and more evident, the role of Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) assessors is becoming more critical than ever.
The expertise of these assessors will therefore continue to empower homeowners to make informed decisions, reduce the carbon footprint of their homes, and contribute significantly to global efforts aimed at preserving our environment for future generations.
The Chief Executive concluded by encouraging the present assessors to keep themselves updated with the latest advances in energy-efficient technology and methodologies and to continue attending training for this purpose.
With this increase in the number of assessors, the opportunity for current homeowners or new residential buildings to improve energy performance continues to increase.
