Masons Application Form

Any person can work in the building industry according to his skill, ability and experience, but only a person who is in possession of a Mason’s Licence can act as a Mason as defined in the local Code of Police Laws (Chapter 10, Part V, Article 95).

To obtain a mason’s license an applicant must demonstrate the required skills in an examination conducted by the Masons’ Board. Any individual can apply to sit for such examination. Candidates will be required sit for a Theory and Practical examinations.

The Practical Part of the Masons’ License envisages that candidates would draw a traditional masonry feature such as an arch in full scale and produce/stone dress one of its components (voussoirs). Individuals in possession of a Level 3 related Skill Card are considered as having passed part of the Practical exam in such a way that they would not have to dress/produce a stone but they would still be required to draw a masonry feature and will also be inspected at their building site. Apart from the practical exam, candidates will still be required to sit for a theory exam. If successful in both exams they will be eligible for the Mason’s Licence.

The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology offers part time courses to prepare applicants for the mentioned exams. Please click here for further information.

To apply candidates must download and fill in the form here. One must also present a recent Police Conduct Certificate together with an administrative fee of €26. Applicants will be informed of the date and time of their examination in due course.

The Building and Construction Authority will only consider the issuance of a mason’s license to candidates who were successful in both the theory and practical exams.
