No demolition and excavation works will be permitted within tourism areas between 15th June and 30th September 2022. This initiative which is being co-ordinated between the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Planning Authority (PA) takes into account the nuisance and inconvenience that construction sites have on the surrounding neighborhood.
The enforcement of this legal notice (295/07) is one way of mitigating the nuisance that construction sites have on both the tourism industry and the number of Maltese families who move to their summer residences. The demolition and excavation phases at a construction site are by far the greatest inconvenience for the surrounding neighborhood.
Any illegal demolition and excavation works carried out between the 15th June – 30th September 2022, in the identified localities and streets, may be reported to the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) on telephone number 8004 9000 or on 99637508 (Malta) and 99098855 (Gozo) after office hours.
The Malta Tourism Authority is the Competent Authority to identify the localities and streets where demolition or excavation works cannot be carried out. MTA reserves the right to change or amend the list of streets as it deems necessary.
The full list of localities and streets where demolition or excavation works are prohibited during the summer months may be viewed on the MTA’s website https://www.mta.com.mt/en/summerbreaktime2022
