The Masons Licensing Committee would like to inform new applicants, who have applied for a Masons licence, that the process has been launched.
This is another reform aimed at improving the health and safety of all those who are part of this sector, the well-being of third parties within construction sites as well as all those who will be investing in property.
The license will be obtained through four different stages, including informative and educational meetings, sessions and examinations.
Two information meetings will be held on 15 October, in Maltese and English, to explain the process that will be used to obtain this licence as well as to gain more knowledge about the examinations that will be held in the coming weeks.
The English meeting will be held at 4:00 p.m., while the Maltese meeting will be held on the same day at 6:00 p.m. The Committee together with the Authority recommend all applicants to attend these meetings which will be held at Maria Regina Primary School in Qawra.
Applicants will also be obliged to attend four teaching sessions in preparation for the examinations in connection with obtaining the licence. These learning sessions will provide applicants with basic information about the skills and knowledge that will be required in the examinations. The sessions will be held between 22nd and 26th October, and will be provided in both Maltese and English, according to the wishes of the applicant.
All those who have attended the obligatory learning sessions will then be asked to sit for two examinations, one in writing and one in practice. The use of mobile phones will not be permitted for these two examinations.
All persons who had applied to obtain this licence are receiving a letter with all the necessary details. Those who for any reason have not received this letter, are to contact the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) immediately.
“This is another link in a chain of reforms that the government is carrying out in the construction sector, which will lead to higher standards in this sector”, said Minister for Justice and Reform of the construction sector Dr Jonathan Attard in connection with these developments which will lead to the Authority having for the first time an account of those who are licensed masons and will be able to help citizens find those who are licensed masons.
Acting Chief Executive, Architect Roderick Bonnici, said that the Authority together with the Committee are working so that all processes for obtaining the licencing of masons and even contractors, are rigorous and efficient.
Interested masons are to provide a copy of their Identity Card to the Building and Construction Authority by Tuesday 15th October. Whoever does not provide this copy will be considered as not interested in continuing with his or her application for this licence.
Meanwhile, anyone who needs more information should call the Building and Construction Authority on number 138.
